Fresh Market Foods is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as Assistant Produce Manager (NOC 60020). In this role, you will support the Produce department in overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, ensuring exceptional customer service, driving sales, and maintaining high standards of product quality and food safety. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overseeing daily Produce department operations, including serving customers, managing production schedules, and ensuring timely order fulfillment.

  • Train and mentor staff on day-to-day production expectations, including following recipes, production sheets, sweep logs, and customer service standards.

  • Assign daily tasks to staff and monitor completion, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.

  • Monitor inventory levels, prioritize products nearing expiry, participate in monthly inventory counts, and support the ordering process.

  • Assist with receiving and inspecting shipments for quality and accuracy and ensure proper product rotation (FIFO).

  • Ensure produce meets high standards of freshness and quality, maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the department.

  • Promote health and safety by ensuring team compliance with food safety protocols and safe handling practices.

  • Address customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and provide product recommendations to enhance the shopping experience.

  • Support merchandising initiatives, including product displays, promotions, and cross-merchandising to drive sales and meet department targets.

  • Maintain accurate records such as inventory logs, temperature logs, and receiving documentation, as required.

  • Oversee vendor product orders and conduct routine inspections to ensure consistent quality and freshness.

  • Perform a variety of Produce tasks as needed, including duties typical of Produce Clerks and Supervisors.

  • Assist in monitoring departmental sales and support operational budgets.

  • Oversee the Produce department in the absence of the Produce Manager, ensuring operational continuity, staff supervision, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

 

 Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in business, retail, or a related field is an asset

  • 1–2 years of supervisory experience in a retail or produce environment preferred, with excellent customer service abilities.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, with excellent organizational, leadership and time management skills.

  • knowledge of produce operations, including food preparation, inventory management, and merchandising considered an asset.

  • Availability for flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Proficiency in English required; French is considered an asset.

  • Forklift training, First Aid, and Safe Food Handling certifications are considered assets.

 

Terms of Employment: Permanent Full-time (40 hours/week)

Hourly Rate: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour (based on experience)

Transportation: Fresh Market Foods will cover a one-time round-trip travel cost for the successful candidate to our location and back to their permanent residence at the end of the work period. (This does not include the cost for a full trailer to move (household goods, trailers, or large personal belongings etc.).
